BSA screenarts

10. Pokemon was originally not supposed to be in my movies list but it made it in due to the major fact that as a child, pokemon helped provide a vital role in shaping my morals and attitude towards things. If i was to look beyond that simple fact for the purpose of this homework, I would say that the reason i loved pokemon was due to the concepts of taming beasts and fighting one another in a controlled enviroment and even though if I think of it now, it does seem to be animal cruelty? I did take away what I feel are important life lessons such as love and respect your friends. You want some cheese? I have an abundance of it.

9. Next in the countdown, we proceed to the award winning and widely known, Spirited away by hayao Miyazki and studio Ghibli. The simple reason behind the reason this movie is in my list is to be honest, I loved the life and emotions studio ghibli gave their characters in general. However the main protagonist Chihiro appealed to me I feel cause when I first watched this movie I was around her age and it was just so crazy how we seemed so similar but she was having to go through all those events that was completely worlds apart from what I've ever experienced.

8. This movie actually struck quite a chord with me as I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was so abstractin the world it was based where literally everything had the potential ability to kill you or cause you serious harm especially to the humans. But the reason why I feel like I enjoyed it so much was this kind of huge world and the thoughts behind were so vast and even though it was all pressed into one movie, I still got the opportunity to experience just what it took on building such a wide and complex.

7. Naruto has got to be one of my all time favourites on terms of characters. why? sure it took several hundreds of episodes for me to get to this point of loving him as a character but what I loved throughout his development were the idea of wielding elemental magic called jutsus.

6. Possibly one of the most attractive visual art style I've ever seen. Their concept art is amazing and their processes for creating such flawless looking characters always awe me. I was never a huge fan of the games done in the final fantasy franchise? but their art style always inspired me.

 5. An extraordinarily fast paced Korean drama based off of ancient korea, this movie appeals to me due to the amazing choreography and the quality of acting they managed to achieve in my opinion. I loved their simplistic yet charismatic character setups and their equipment.

4. An incredible journey based story driven by emotional character interactions and undeniably alot of cheesy moments. I loved this story not for the set ups or anything but I preferred this movie purely for the strong raw feeling character developments as in who wouldn't.

3. A story of epic proportions, this movie has to be in my top three favorite movies due to the obviously asian influenced armor that the leafmen wore. I really like these kinds of movies where western and asian influences come together to make a product cause to me, hybrids always seemingly end up in my good books.

2. this movie is just so beast. LITERALLY. I mentioned above how i'm extremely fond of Mr Miyazaki's work but this has got to be my favorite from the work he's produced. reason being, it has such a strong- you know what? I've decided all of the movies that i have selected have extremely intense character developments. The main raso behind this particular movie being my no.2? its story arc took us over so many different settings so flawlessly. From the quiet depths of the forest, to a bustling city with gun using marksmen, to dens of super sized wolves to even a war field.

1. Any surprises here? well. I couldn't decide on which of the trilogy made me flip out the most so I added the first one as a representation that to be honest, they stand above any of the movies that i have listed. Solid reason? I have some mad respect for mr Tolkein. For someone to be able to construct such a world as this blew my little mind as a kid. Frick I would have loved to add so much more but there you have it. My top ten.

BSA 226

Elizabeth's redesign

I was actually quite happy with her newer developments.

BSA 226

So today me and a classmate were talking quite extensively on our characters and ideas for them. I showed him three drawings and a quick painting of them i had done to which his response was extremely 'meh'. But upon revisiting my designs, I totally got why he'd think that way. They were too plain, not really enough for me to want to even go into her world; see things through her eyes? why..? shes too plain annnnd so I reached the conclusion to try re-approach her using the same elements that I liked about her.

I went back to 'moments' or characteristics of various characters I enjoyed such as Morrigan from Dragonage. The expressions she pulled and just simplistic enough designs but with an unending spring of visual appeal and amusement. And I worked off these kinds of characters in my mind.

Characters like Kenshin popped out with the idea of his back ward sword and the intresting way this would work is if their was an assasination or something in his village and the description for the assaulter was that "He attacked from the front" it would immediately eliminate Kenshin as his blade forces him to use backward strikes. like okay how this relates to my character is that I was imagining my character, Elizabeth to have this huge bell on her back that she carries around so when she walks around it jingles softly. but however she's so adept at sneaking when she sneaks around, the bells actually quiet, so how my classmate imagined it is if like Kenshin, when something goes down? the people don't generally turn to look at Elaiza purely cause logically they would say stuff like "She can't sneak around, not with that huge ass bell".

While I was designing my redesign, I kinda gave her these weird shaped pauldrons and when looked at immediately reminded me of this character; Astrid from how to train your dragon. Yet another character that I liked from her simplicity but she was incredibly interesting as a lone character.

My character however, did come in and give me some different thoughts while i was designing my character saying how he feels more along that back-revealing design might suit her more so I tried that as well.

I did a bit of character design today but not as much I would have wanted to because I'm experiencing quite a strong art block. Ehh I'm sure given some time, I'll get back into the swing of things :)

BSA 225, 226 - logline for 3d animation

So one of the main requirements for this assignment was that our character had to be a humanoid which is totally fine by me as my characters are like mostly humans anyway. And also we had to have our treatment ready by the fourth week in sooooo I assumed the best course of action for me was to just do it now. Preemptive strike!!!
My initial idea for this animation was a game character selection esque appearance where you can imagine this small area like perhaps a military bunker for an example and there are multiple shadows looming in the background maybe like five of them. And one by one as the character scrolls over them, they step forth one by one and say a line of dialogue before the player decides who they're going to play as.

Working Title: You are who you decide
Logline: In a fate seemingly sealed by stone, who will be the one to cast the shadows away.

Basic log outline:
-Game opening with my logo animation flashing across the screen.
-Darkness shrouds the screen with wisps of mist swirling around softly
-The darkness itself fades away revealing a dimly lit tavern with five silhouetted figures positioned in various corners of the room.
-As the player scrolls over each character (which will be represented by a small cursor icon that hovers from character to character), they will step forth and do a small animation accompanied by a character description box on the side describing their attributes but however. You can't actually see what they look like; merely a black silhouette
-A voice over will tell the player a basic narrative of each hero such as "Ahhh Malbour, a fine warrior if I do say so myself. This champion heralds from the human cities far to the east wielding a mighty broad sword, he is a terrible sight to behold on the battlefield indeed".
-The player selects the last hero and in a cinematic sequence, the camera slowly goes around the character as the black silhouette starts shattering and falling off the character in fragment of varying sizes; revealing the hero.
-with a whoosh, the darkness overtakes the screen once more.
-A loading screen with the summarized events of the story up till the beginning of the game appears on the screen and after a few seconds, it fades away replaced by a game tip, an example; "tip: the duelist's specialty lies with her agile poise. Make use of that and never stop moving".
  • (all the whilst) A fixed model of the female character polishing her sword spins around slowly as light dances off her blade, the camera pans in and out a little making it appear as if the players the one who's spinning her around.

Character: I am gong to be only modeling this one character properly and for the others I'm going to be grabbing default male bodies as well as the female default body I model and adding pieces to it making them very distinctive silhouettes. The female character that I have decided to develop is Penelope 'Crow' Augeri, A slim brunette with bright green eyes. She's garbed in a plain tunic uniform with a belt and a small hip cape dangling elegantly from her side. Her hair is loose with a few small braids neatly tucked away. Her expression is more noble-looking with a small sharp nose and dainty smile.

BSA 226

Homework that I've been working on for Rachel's class. This is just a small process to show how i worked into developing character silhouettes. I will however begin diving into actual character appearances and fleshing out their design soon enough.

BSA 226 --- Artist models

These are the artists whose works I admire immensely and work towards in order to getting my art style closer to what they produce.

Brandon Liao

I am  inspired to study what this artist produces as I appreciate his character proportions and just how his scenarios generally seem so alive.

Josh Corpuz
I enjoy this artist's work as he does these really awesome loose sketches that easily portray really vivid character emotions.
Tetsuya Nomura

Now for Tetsuya's work, I've loved his stuff since I was a kid when kingdom hearts came out as holy damn, them sexy character designs speak for themselves to be honest
Brandon Dunn
I enjoy Brandon's artstyle as I really enjoy his his character outfit designs and his overall sense of compostion.
Mark Brunet

I have watched quite a few of this artists youtube videos as they're immensely beneficial to me as a newbie digital artist and I love his value paintings.

Character silhouette practice

A practice of creating silhouettes of characters using sketches I already had from the holidays. They are not going to be for the 3d character I want to make this was purely for practice.

(UPDATE) after much deliberation, I've just decided to go for medieval- esque fantasy animation.

BSA 202

Kingdom hearts is a game i'm extremely passionate for as it held an immense influence over shaping my childhood years. I always felt myself drawn to these elegant styled characters and unforgettable moments featuring my all time favorite Disney characters. I know our assignment brief was to select a movie to analyze but when strung together, Kingdom cinematics are more than enough to cover the length of any film I believe so I have requested for our tutor Vaughan to let me know whether or not it's something I would be allowed to do.

Character research

The first installment of my new journey to seek after new character ideas for the upcoming 3d animtion. Still in the process of deciding whether if I want to go into the medieval fantasy- esque theme or more sci-fi.
